Dear Colleagues,
Our mini-track, The Dark Side of Technology Use, will run for the 8th
consecutive year as part of the Adoption and Diffusion of Information
Technology (SIGADIT) track at the AMCIS 2025 Conference, to be held in
Montreal, Canada, from August 14–16, 2025.
This mini-track provides a platform for examining the negative impacts of
contemporary technologies on individuals, organizations, and society.
Technologies like social media platforms, smartphones, AI systems, and
health IT solutions offer numerous benefits but can also lead to challenges
like addiction, technostress, interruptions, disinformation, privacy
concerns, and health issues—both psychological and physical. Even tools
like work emails or security software, which enhance productivity and
safety, can have unintended consequences.
We encourage submissions that explore these multifaceted issues and propose
innovative strategies to mitigate the challenges arising from the darker
side of technology. We welcome contributions that are empirical
(quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods), theoretical, as well as
modeling and simulation studies.
