Applications Now Open: PhD in Business Administration (Information Systems) at UNR – Fall 2025

The Department of Information Systems in the University of Nevada, Reno’s College of Business invites applications for its Fall 2025 PhD program. We are particularly seeking motivated applicants with strong aptitude for research and a prior master’s degree (with top academic credentials) in business, data science, statistics, economics, computer science, social sciences, engineering, or other relevant fields. Relevant research experience is required and will be considered a valuable asset during the application review process.
A hallmark of our doctoral program is close collaboration between students and our faculty through which students learn to create their own research agendas and develop their teaching skills. Our PhD program curriculum allows for different methodological tracks in research. Our interdisciplinary faculty have a strong track record of high-quality research appeared in prestigious journals. The program prepares students mainly for academic positions; nonetheless, some students may choose to land research positions in industry or government. The program requires about two years of coursework and two to three years of dissertation work. We provide our PhD students with Graduate Assistantship opportunities that come with tuition waivers and generous stipends for up to four years. Additional funding is also available to support our PhD students with conference travel and research.
The priority application deadline is February 15, 2025, and we strongly encourage applicants to submit their materials by this date for full consideration. The first round of application reviews will begin the following week. While the application portal will remain open until March 15th, applications submitted after February 15th will be considered on a space-available basis.
To apply, browse to the Graduate School Application Portal (https://www.unr.edu/grad/admissions), click on BEGIN ONLINE APPLICATION, create an account, and then choose “Business Administration PhD” for Program of Study, and “Business – Information Systems PhD” for the Sub-plan/Emphasis for Program of Study.
As part of the online application, applicants must submit:
· Official transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions
· Resume or Curriculum Vitae
· A statement of purpose that provides information on the applicant’s academic background, aptitude for research, work and research experience, and motivation for seeking a PhD in Information Systems. Statement of purpose must also outline the applicant’s research interests (and how they relate to Information Systems) and highlight any qualifications that may distinguish them from other applicants.
· A minimum of two (preferably three) letters of recommendation from people familiar with the applicant’s academic records and aptitude for doctoral work in Information Systems. Current or former professors with significant interaction with the applicant are the recommenders of choice. For applicants who are employed in a field related to Information Systems, a letter from an employer can also be of value.
· Published and/or in-progress research. Relevant research experience is required and will be considered a valuable asset during the application review process.
· GMAT or GRE scores (preferred, not mandatory)
· Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed online via Zoom.
