CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
JAIS Workshop: Creating Policy Impact through Information Systems Research
Date: March 28th, 2025
Time: 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM US Eastern Standard Time
Format: Virtual Workshop (1 hour) + Fireside Chat (1 hour)
The Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS) invites scholars to participate in a virtual workshop focused on creating policy impact through Information Systems (IS) research. The goal of the workshop is to foster dialogue and generate ideas about translating IS research into policy influence. In an era where IS have become deeply woven into the fabric of society, their influence extends into everyday activities of citizens and governments and are fundamentally transforming how individuals live, organizations and economic markets operate, and governments function. Such digital transformation presents complex challenges that demand thoughtful policy responses. Despite the profound impact of IS on institutional structures and societal norms, there remains an important gap between insights from IS research and policy formation. Rapidly evolving IS such as generative AI, autonomous systems, social media, and digital platforms raise urgent questions about governance, equity, and societal well-being that require careful consideration from both research and policy perspectives. We invite interested IS colleagues to this collaborative effort to strengthen the voice of Information Systems research in policy discussions and create meaningful impact in the policy-making process. The scope of IS research and policy implications can be within or across levels: individual (e.g., privacy, digital rights, user behavior); organizational (e.g., digital transformation, compliance, governance); macro (e.g., digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, platform regulation).
1. Who would benefit and what you should submit in order to participate:

* A write-up based on findings from your research that contributes to research/knowledge on how to generate policy impact from IS research, that you want to develop into a potential JAIS policy submission. [See JAIS guidelines - https://aisel.aisnet.org/jais/authorinfo.html]
* Description of your own research (research problem, research design, data, analysis and insights) that would benefit from feedback vis-a-vis its suitability for policy impact that you wish to generate from it
* Your own experiences (challenges, opportunities, lessons learnt) at generating policy impact from your research that you wish to discuss, to likewise benefit from colleagues' experiences
2. Workshop goals:
The workshop aims to facilitate:
* JAIS policy paper development
* Policy oriented collaborations among IS scholars
* Initiatives to amplify IS research outputs in policy debates
