Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunity: LLMs Research

*Development of Domain-specific Generative AI  (DoGAI)*

The advent of Generative AI (GenAI) based on pre-trained large language
models (LLMs)  and large multimodal models (LMMs) has recently elicited
much interest. Popular examples of GenAI are ChatGPT 3.5, 4.0, Bing AI,
Gemini, Deep Seek and many more. So far, GenAI systems have produced
impressive and mixed results, adjudged to do well on general knowledge
questions but not so well in domain-specific questions and questions
requiring higher-order reasoning. The main research goal is to explore the
adaptation of open-source  LLMs with domain-specific knowledge and
continuous training leading to the development of GenAI decision-support
for specific application domains. We are looking more into the domain of
healthcare and business.


 We have the opportunity to host a postdoctoral fellow in this project. The
contract is *R 250 000* (tax-free) per annum. Period of support – 2 years
renewal is subject to a satisfactory progress report (see attached).


*Skillsets*:

Python programming, LLM development (finetuning and training), NLP, AI
development, machine learning; good academic writing.
