PhD Candidate Position

Dear AiS colleagues,

University West is now hiring a PhD candidate within Work-integrated Learning with a specialization in Information Systems.

The PhD project focuses on developing and integrating an immersive learning platform in Virtual Reality to enhance, deepen, and expand civic orientation for third-country nationals. This will be carried out in collaboration with the unit for civic orientation initiatives at the City of Gothenburg.

Building on insights from a completed and linked pilot study on civic orientation in Virtual Reality, the project will focus on two key aspects related to central themes in civic orientation: "Protection against Discrimination" and "Freedom of Expression." A core part of this focus is analyzing how immersive learning in Virtual Reality contributes to the social integration of third-country nationals and how real-life scenarios, situations, and key moments related to these themes can be simulated interactively in Virtual Reality.

The PhD project involves studying technology, learning, and practice, as well as developing design theory for immersive learning platforms that enable work-integrated learning in virtual environments. In addition, the PhD student will collaborate with users at the City of Gothenburg and engage with researchers at University West.

The project will also receive support from University West’s Open Lab, where the PhD student will have access to expertise and technical resources, including immersive technologies, computers, and Virtual Reality headsets.
