DESCRIPTION
The constant and rapid pace of technological developments has propelled the already flourishing world of social media, offering more opportunities to individuals, organizations, and society. However, it has also brought pressing challenges and problems that call for exploration in our increasingly digitalized existence. While we enjoy the benefits of technological breakthroughs, we are also changed and shaped by them. This mini-track invites papers that identify and address the dynamics of technology, social media, and human interaction, specifically, the elements that impact people’s personal lives, disrupt the operation of organizations, and mangle the social fabric. The overarching goal is to safeguard the public by raising awareness of the impacts of technological advancement and social media use, identifying innovative approaches to address the challenges of maintaining a safe and productive environment, and promoting social well-being for the greater good.
Empirical, theoretical, philosophical, review, or position papers are welcome in this track. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
• Digital attention span and social media usage
• Ethical, legal issues, and freedom of speech in social media
• Fraud and social media scamming, e.g., online identity, financial scam (Crypto investment scam), hoax, and phishing
• Impact of technology and social media on physical and mental health
• Misinformation and privacy of social media
• Relationship among technology, social media, and human
• Social media addiction and isolation
• Social media and criminal activities
• Social media and education
• Social media and law enforcement
• Social media and personal relationship
• Social media and productivity/job performance
• Social media and telecommuting
• Social media, democracy, and public opinion
• Social media, face-to-face interaction, and personal fulfillment
• Social media on business communication
• Social media and politics
• Social media and society
SUBMISSION TYPES
• Full papers must not exceed 10 pages all-inclusive (approx. 5,000 words).
• Emergent Research Forum (ERF) papers must not exceed 5 pages all-inclusive (approx. 2,500 words).
All submissions must conform to the AMCIS 2025 submission template and will be peer-reviewed using a double-blind system.
IMPORTANT DATES
• January 5, 2025: Manuscript submissions begin
• February 28, 2024: Submissions are due at 5 p.m. ET (New York)
• March 7, 2025: Reviewers assigned to all papers
• April 9, 2025: Mini-Track recommendations due
• April 14, 2025: Track Chair recommendations due
• April 24, 2025: Revised, camera-ready papers due
• May 2, 2025: Final decisions on AMCIS 2025 program made
