Dear Colleagues,
We invite you to submit your research to our mini-track, AI-Triggered Change in Job identities, Routines, and Practices
As AI systems become increasingly integrated into the workplace, human jobs are evolving. AI's growing capabilities are transforming how tasks are performed, workflows are managed, and decisions are made. This shift brings both positive and negative consequences toward AI in the workplace, making it essential to study the impact of automation and AI not only on the employee outcomes but also on the human psyche. This track will focus on the evolving job identities, routines, and practices resulting from human-AI interaction in the workplace.
Potential topics include:
* Job Identity under increased task automation and AI systems
* Dealing with coworkers who do not understand strengths and limitations of AI
* Productivity vs Burnout at work with AI tools
* Technostress and fears of redundancy with using AI
* AI’s influence on employee self-efficacy
* AI as a source of financial, legal, and social risks in AI applications
* Sunk cost fallacy in the use of AI for tasks
* Knowledge workers and AI
* Theoretical frameworks for AI in the workplace
* Vigilance toward AI outcomes
When many initiatives and projects fail, how will workers who invested their time and focus in AI tools respond to these failures? Do project leaders in organizations fully understand the capabilities and limitations of AI within their projects? For those who have tied their identity to their job, how does increased automation impact their sense of self? More importantly, how do they respond to the looming question, "Are robots going to take my job?" Fears over AI and automation have already led to strikes by unions which may have negative economic impacts.
We invite submissions that explore human reactions to AI in the workplace, as well as the legal, financial, and ethical implications of its use. Additionally, we seek insights into the broader impacts of AI on workers and workplace dynamics. We welcome diverse submissions in terms of theoretical perspectives, units of analysis, contexts, and methodologies.
*Important Dates*
*January 13, 2025: System opens for Completed and ERF paper submissions
*February 28, 2025: Submissions are due at 5 p.m. EST
We are excited to receive your submissions.
